Sierra Madre Library hosts local produce distribution and annual bookmark contest

The Sierra Madre City Council meeting on April 8, 2025, highlighted a series of community-focused initiatives, particularly emphasizing the library's role in local engagement.

World Central Kitchen is making a significant impact by providing fresh, locally sourced produce to those affected by the Eaton Fire. This service is available in the Sierra Madre library parking lot on Wednesdays from 4 PM to 8 PM and Fridays from 11 AM to 3 PM, showcasing the community's resilience and support for its members.

In addition, the library is hosting its annual bookmark contest, with submissions due by 6 PM on Thursday, April 10. This year's theme, "Love My Sierra Madre," invites participants to express their affection for the city through art, with winning entries set to be displayed.

The meeting also recognized National Library Workers' Day, celebrating the essential contributions of library staff. To mark National Library Week, the library encourages visitors to take a "shelfie" at a designated photo booth and participate in a "Spring into Art" table throughout the week.

Looking ahead, the Wisteria Festival and an Earth Day celebration are set for this Saturday at Memorial Park, featuring various booths from local organizations, including Athens Services and the Eaton Canyon Nature Center. The Earth Day event will run from 10 AM to 2 PM, promising a day of community engagement and environmental awareness.

Additionally, the Sierra Madre Fire Department will host an Easter egg hunt on April 19 at 9 AM for children aged 1 to 9, reminding families to arrive early for this quick-paced event.
