Sacramento Housing Authority approves $2.5M loan for Auburn Falls rehabilitation project

The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors took significant steps towards enhancing affordable housing during their recent meeting on April 8, 2025. The board approved a conditional loan commitment of $2.5 million for the Auburn Falls Project, aimed at rehabilitating 76 former public housing units across four sites in Sacramento County and Citrus Heights. This initiative is part of the Sacramento Housing Authority Repositioning Program (SHARP) and is designed to provide housing for families earning between 40% and 60% of the area median income.

The Auburn Falls Project will address critical repairs and improvements, including updates to mechanical systems, roofing, plumbing, and flooring, as well as the addition of new kitchens and bathrooms. The project, which has already received prior approval for bond applications, is set to close on funding next month. Notably, one site was removed from the project due to structural issues, which will be demolished separately.

In addition to the Auburn Falls Project, the board also approved a $6.9 million conditional loan commitment for the San Juan Apartments 2 project. This initiative, developed by Mutual Housing California, will create a new four-story building with 70 units designated for seniors earning between 30% and 50% of the area median income. The project aims to provide permanent supportive housing and will include community amenities such as a community room and outdoor seating area.

Both projects reflect the county's ongoing commitment to addressing housing needs and improving living conditions for low-income residents. The board's unanimous support for these initiatives underscores the importance of affordable housing in the community, as they work towards creating sustainable living environments for vulnerable populations.
