Traffic study reveals congestion levels on Lehi roads including Timpanogos Highway

The Highland City Council meeting on April 8, 2025, focused on traffic flow and roadway performance within the city. City officials presented findings from recent traffic counts conducted at various locations, which are essential for understanding current congestion levels.

The discussion highlighted the concept of "level of service," a grading scale used to evaluate roadway performance. Levels A through D are considered acceptable, while E indicates congestion, and F signifies significant backups. The most congested areas identified include UDOT roads such as Timpanogos Highway, Alpine Highway, and North County Boulevard, as well as city streets like Canal Boulevard.

Officials reported that Timpanogos Highway experiences approximately 41,000 vehicles daily, exceeding its capacity of around 30,000 cars, resulting in a level of service F. Similarly, North County Boulevard also faces high traffic volumes, leading to a level of service E. The city aims to maintain a level of service D or better for optimal traffic flow.

The meeting encouraged questions and discussions from attendees, emphasizing the importance of community engagement in addressing traffic concerns. The findings from this meeting will inform future planning and improvements to enhance roadway performance in Highland.
