City reports progress on business permits and infrastructure concerns at EDP meeting

Denton's Economic Development Partnership Board (EDPB) made significant strides in addressing local business concerns during their meeting on April 9, 2025. A key highlight was the board's proactive approach to assist a business facing delays in permitting, which has been ongoing since September 2023. The board facilitated a connection between the business and the city's development services team, resulting in a swift response that clarified the permitting process and helped expedite their project.

The board acknowledged that communication issues had contributed to the delays, with businesses reporting inconsistent information from different city representatives. However, the recent collaboration has improved relations, with businesses expressing satisfaction with the support received.

Looking ahead, the EDPB plans to address two potential incentive approvals in their May meeting. They will also discuss a high volume of Requests for Information (RFIs) from the state, emphasizing the need for strategic responses based on capital investment potential. This influx of RFIs is unprecedented, and the board aims to prioritize which requests to tackle.

Additionally, the board will receive updates on water infrastructure and the status of commercial electric deposits, addressing previous inquiries that had gone unanswered. The nominating committee also reported progress in selecting new board members, with final recommendations expected to be presented to the city council on May 6.
