Cecil County Education Board selects three students for upcoming member elections

The Cecil County Public Schools Board of Education convened on April 9, 2025, for a meeting that began with a closed session before transitioning to an open session at 5:30 PM. The meeting commenced with the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Miss Griffin, followed by a reflection on the board's mission to serve equitably and foster positive relationships within the community.

The board adopted the meeting agenda unanimously after a motion and second were made. Following this, the consent agenda was presented, and no items were requested for discussion. The board moved to approve the consent agenda without opposition.

Under new business, board member reports were shared, starting with Miss Griffin. She highlighted two key points regarding the student county council, noting that three students had been selected to proceed to elections for the new student member of the board for the upcoming school year. Current board members will soon meet with these students to conduct interviews and select the best candidate for the role. Additionally, she mentioned the upcoming final meeting of the county council, which will feature a Q&A session with Dr. Boyer.

Mr. Fernando followed with a personal update, sharing his experiences as a softball dad and coach. He expressed pride in his daughter, who was featured on the cover of a local sports publication for her performance in a recent game. He acknowledged the challenges ahead for the team, which has lost several seniors, but emphasized the excitement of building a new team with younger players.
