Council approves $25M school bond and police department equipment purchases

Coventry Town Council has taken significant steps to enhance community safety and infrastructure during its recent meeting on April 8, 2025. The council approved several resolutions that will provide essential funding for various projects, including a substantial school bond and critical equipment for the police department.

The council unanimously passed Resolution 2025-37, authorizing a $25 million bond to support school projects. This funding is aimed at improving educational facilities and is expected to be submitted to the Ryback board for approval in June, with full funding anticipated by mid-July. In addition to educational improvements, the council approved the purchase of a new police vehicle and essential technology upgrades. Resolution 2025-38 allows for the acquisition of a 2025 Ford F-250 crew cab for the police department, funded entirely through a federal grant, totaling $56,663.55. This vehicle will enhance the department's operational capabilities.

Furthermore, the council approved Resolution 2025-39, which allocates $24,478.49 for virtual server hardware and software for the police department, also funded by the same federal grant. These technological upgrades are crucial for maintaining efficient police operations.

Another key resolution, 2025-40, was passed to purchase Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) for frontline police vehicles and municipal buildings, excluding schools. This initiative, funded by opioid settlement funds, amounts to $25,334.61 and aims to replace outdated AEDs, ensuring that emergency medical equipment is readily available to save lives in critical situations.
