Yukon Fire Department showcases inward door forcing technique in live demo

The Yukon Fire Department held a training session on April 9, 2025, focusing on forcible entry techniques for inward swinging doors. The demonstration was led by Gunner Cook, accompanied by Captain Barrett Davis, who showcased a one-man technique for effectively breaching a door.

The session began with an emphasis on the principle of "try before you pry," highlighting the importance of assessing the door's condition before attempting to force entry. Captain Davis demonstrated the technique by using his leg for leverage to create a gap in the door. He then employed an ax to sink the adze of the Heligan tool into the doorstop, effectively softening the door for entry.

Following the forcible entry demonstration, the training progressed to a live fire layout, where participants practiced the skills learned in a controlled environment. The session concluded with a focus on securing the door after entry, ensuring that safety protocols were maintained throughout the training.
