The Forward Pinellas Board Meeting on April 9, 2025, highlighted significant advancements in the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) community bus plan. Jacob Lobutka, PSTA's planning manager, presented the new Connected Community Bus Network, which aims to enhance public transportation across the county.
Lobutka emphasized that the plan is cost-neutral, utilizing the existing fleet and budget. The network redesign, which occurs every five years, is one of the most extensive changes in recent history, focusing on clarity, consistency, and connectivity. Key features include improved route schedules, expanded service to seven days a week, and better transfer experiences for riders.

Notable improvements include more frequent trolley services on Clearwater Beach and the introduction of the Spark service, which will operate every 15 minutes between Grand Central and Eckerd College.
Lobutka also discussed the plan's impact on job access, noting a 6% increase in access for the average resident during weekdays, with even higher increases for low-income and transit-dependent populations. Public outreach played a crucial role in shaping the recommendations, with two-thirds of survey respondents expressing support for the new network.
Looking ahead, PSTA plans to implement the changes by fall 2025, with ongoing public workshops to keep the community informed. The meeting underscored the importance of public transportation in supporting the local economy and enhancing accessibility for all residents in Pinellas County.
