MPS hosts 2025 festival and honor band concert featuring three school bands

The 2025 Mesa Public Schools Festival and Honor Band Concert showcased the hard work and talent of local student musicians on April 10, 2025. Hosted by MPS band specialist Amy Ruth, the event celebrated the dedication of students, parents, and teachers involved in the music programs.

The concert featured three bands, beginning with the West Elementary Band, conducted by Brian Wilson. Wilson expressed pride in the students' performance, introducing pieces like "Bulldogs on Parade" and "Blackbeard," which highlighted the creativity and enthusiasm of the young musicians.

Following the West Elementary Band, the East Elementary Band took the stage under the direction of Megan Bennett. Bennett thanked the audience for their support and encouraged students to continue their musical journeys, emphasizing the growth and improvement that comes with dedication.

The final performance was by the Junior High Honor Band, conducted by Taryn Jones, assistant band director at Red Mountain High School. Jones reflected on the rewarding experience of working with the talented musicians and encouraged them to pursue music in high school, noting their potential as future leaders in the field.

The concert not only showcased the students' musical abilities but also highlighted the vital role of parental support and community involvement in fostering a vibrant music education program. The evening concluded with a spirited performance of "Afterburn," leaving the audience inspired by the students' achievements and the importance of music in education.
