Horden High School highlights Arab American Heritage and Poetry Month in library events

During the recent Board of Education meeting in New Jersey, the spotlight shone on several key initiatives and celebrations within the school district. Notably, April is recognized as National School Library Month, and the Horden High School Library is embracing this by highlighting Arab American Heritage Month. The library is showcasing the contributions of Arab Americans through various displays and book talks, while also celebrating National Poetry Month with engaging activities like pocket poem giveaways.

In addition to these cultural celebrations, the meeting featured a report from the student representative, who shared updates on upcoming events at Northern High School, including a "Vakbo Bingo" hosted by the North PTO and the release of report cards for the third marking period. The excitement surrounding spring break was palpable, as students look forward to a well-deserved break.

The meeting also recognized the achievements of students inducted into the Italian Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and National Honor Society at Wilfrid High School. The ceremonies were well-attended, and the board expressed gratitude to the advisors for their efforts in honoring these students. A special dinner to celebrate the National Honor Society inductees is scheduled for May 1.

Furthermore, the board discussed the upcoming leadership camp hosted by the Wilfrid Police Department, aimed at easing the transition for incoming sixth graders. Applications for this valuable program are due by June 13, 2025.

Lastly, the board addressed the revised school calendar for the 2024-2025 academic year, noting adjustments due to unused inclement weather days. This proactive approach ensures that the school year remains on track despite unforeseen disruptions.
