McAllen ISD proclaims April 2025 as Autism Awareness and Military Child Month

The McAllen Independent School District (ISD) Board of Trustees held a regular meeting on April 8, 2025, where several important proclamations were made to recognize significant observances in April.

The meeting began with a proclamation declaring April 2025 as Autism Awareness Month. Board member Lucia Thompson emphasized the importance of raising awareness about autism, highlighting the need for early diagnosis and intervention, as well as celebrating the unique talents of individuals with autism. Following this, the board adopted a proclamation for the Month of the Military Child, designating April 15, 2025, as "Purple Up" day. Additionally, the board proclaimed the week of April 7-11, 2025, as Gifted and Talented Awareness Week. This initiative, supported by the Texas Association of Gifted and Talented, aims to promote the importance of gifted education and encourage support for programs that cater to the unique needs of gifted students. Vice President Lucia Regalado highlighted the district's commitment to providing opportunities for gifted students to maximize their potential.
