The Wolfeboro Board of Selectmen (BoS) Work Session on April 9, 2025, spotlighted a significant merger that promises to enhance local trail management and community engagement. The Greater Wolf Road chapter has officially merged with the New England Mountain Bike Association (NEMBA), now operating under the name Greater Wolf Brow, NEMBA group chapter. This strategic alliance aims to bolster resources and support for trail maintenance and outdoor activities in the region.
Chris Dow, president of the newly formed chapter, detailed the merger's implications, emphasizing that NEMBA, a well-established nonprofit with over 10,000 members and 16,000 miles of managed trails, will provide essential backing. "This merger ensures that our organization will not only survive but thrive," Dow stated, addressing concerns about the sustainability of the local chapter.
The meeting also included a discussion about the amendment to the license agreement with NEMBA, which has been reviewed by legal counsel and is set to enhance collaboration on trail projects. Dow highlighted the importance of this partnership, noting that it allows for shared resources, including insurance coverage, which will now be provided by NEMBA. This change alleviates previous concerns regarding liability and operational continuity.
Mary McCarthy, secretary of NEMBA's executive committee, joined the meeting virtually, reinforcing the organization's commitment to preserving open spaces and promoting biking. "We are excited to welcome the Wolfeboro chapter to our community of 36 chapters," she said, emphasizing the role of volunteers in maintaining trails and fostering a welcoming environment for all outdoor enthusiasts.
The BoS meeting concluded with a sense of optimism about the future of outdoor recreation in Wolfeboro, as the merger is expected to enhance trail accessibility and community involvement. The next steps include finalizing the amended agreements and planning for upcoming trail work days, ensuring that residents can enjoy the natural beauty of the area while participating in sustainable outdoor activities.
