Framingham Community Preservation Committee recommends $90,000 for fire alarm project

Framingham's Community Preservation Committee has approved a funding request of $90,000 for the installation of a new fire alarm system at the Framingham History Center's academy building. This decision, made during the committee's meeting on March 24, 2025, corrects a previous calculation error that had listed the funding amount at $89,000.

The approved funds will be allocated from the Historic Preservation Reserve Account and will cover the purchase and installation of an addressable fire alarm system, along with professional services for assessment and design. The project will adhere to the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation of Historic Structures, ensuring that the historical integrity of the building is maintained.

The committee expressed gratitude for the contributions of Heather O'Donnell, the committee coordinator, who has been instrumental in managing ongoing projects and facilitating communication among committee members and applicants since joining in November 2023.

Looking ahead, the committee plans to present their funding recommendation to the city council in April, marking a significant step in enhancing safety measures at the historic site. The meeting concluded with a unanimous vote in favor of the motion, reflecting strong support for the project among committee members.
