Hinsdale School District proposes new signage for Madison Elementary's centennial

The Village of Hinsdale's Plan Commission meeting on April 10, 2025, highlighted two significant developments that promise to enhance the community's landscape and celebrate local history.

First on the agenda was the approval of a permanent window sign for A-Seventeen Barbershop at 250 East Ogden Avenue. The sign, which has already been installed, received positive feedback from commissioners for its tasteful design. The barbershop's owner collaborated with the commission to ensure compliance with signage regulations, addressing previous concerns about excessive signage. The addition of this barbershop is seen as a welcome enhancement to the local business scene, reflecting the community's ongoing support for diverse services.

The second major topic was the proposed installation of a ground-mounted sign for Madison Elementary School, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The sign will feature the school's name and the year it was established, 1925, and will be designed to match the architectural style of other schools in the district. The sign will not be illuminated and will consist of masonry and limestone, incorporating detailed brickwork known as "coining" at the corners. This project not only marks a significant milestone for the school but also aims to unify the visual identity of educational institutions within the district.

In addition to these discussions, the commission reviewed plans for the Phoenix County School District's administration offices at 133 Stockton Avenue. The district has been seeking a permanent location for its administration for several years and has now decided to purchase a building that will undergo exterior improvements to better reflect its new role as a major tenant in the area.
