The Phase 2 Redistricting Process in Maryland took center stage during a community meeting on April 9, 2025, as officials revealed alarming enrollment projections for local schools. Six elementary schools—Odenton, Watch Apple, Four Seasons, Belvidere, Davidsonville, and Tracy's—are currently overutilized, exceeding 100% capacity. By 2033, two additional schools are expected to join this list, raising concerns about the need for immediate action.
At the middle school level, Crofton Middle School is already over capacity, with an enrollment of 1,345 against a state-rated capacity of 1,339. Projections indicate further growth, pushing enrollment to 1,444. Arundel Middle School is also nearing its limit, currently at 95% utilization and projected to exceed capacity in the coming years.
