Consolidated Communications breaks ground on Tamworth fiber network project

The Tamworth Selectmen's meeting on November 14, 2024, highlighted significant progress in expanding broadband access in the community, a topic that has been under discussion for several years. Jeff Maciver from Consolidated Communications presented an update on the fiber network project, which is set to enhance internet connectivity for residents.

Maciver detailed the journey toward securing funding for the fiber network, noting that Tamworth is part of a broader initiative that began with a successful public-private partnership in Chesterfield, New Hampshire. This model has since inspired 22 other towns to pursue similar funding strategies. The state of New Hampshire received substantial federal funds during the COVID-19 pandemic, which included a $40 million grant awarded to Consolidated Communications to support broadband expansion.

Construction for the fiber network officially began in January 2023, and residents may have already noticed trucks in the area as work progresses. Maciver emphasized that this project will benefit not only Tamworth but also 56 towns across the state, improving access to high-speed internet for many communities.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for residents to ask questions and engage with Maciver, who assured them of ongoing support even after the construction phase is completed. He encouraged residents to reach out with any inquiries regarding the project or their internet services.
