Committee approves expansion of Deep Creek Preserve and new recreational plans

The ECHO Advisory Committee meeting held on April 10, 2025, in Volusia County, Florida, focused on several key projects aimed at enhancing local parks and preserves. The committee discussed the expansion of the Deep Creek Preserve, which will now include the 1,300-acre Carter Quail Ranch. Committee members emphasized the importance of accessibility for all individuals, including those with disabilities, in exploring the preserves. The proposed driving trail will utilize a new permeable paver technology currently under state review, which is expected to minimize environmental impact while enhancing visitor experience.

In addition to the Deep Creek expansion, the committee reviewed plans for the Wiregrass Prairie Preserve, which spans 1,400 acres. Efforts will focus on creating uniform signage and thematic elements to enhance visitor engagement and education about the area's natural features.

The meeting also addressed ongoing projects, including the design and engineering of a BMX park at Robert Strickland Park in Daytona and the Deltona Amphitheater, which has a construction budget of $2 million. Updates on the amphitheater's ADA-compliant boardwalk indicated that pre-bid meetings are scheduled for April, with construction expected to begin in 2026.

Furthermore, the committee discussed improvements to the fairgrounds, which will see an additional $1 million allocated to enhance drainage and infrastructure, including the use of permeable pavers and LED lighting. These upgrades aim to incorporate green infrastructure practices and educate the public on sustainable practices during events.
