Easton High School rewards attendance with incentives and hosts Latin exam celebration

The Talbot County Public Schools Board meeting on April 9, 2025, highlighted several key initiatives and events aimed at enhancing student engagement and academic performance.

One of the main topics discussed was the implementation of incentive programs designed to encourage punctuality and good behavior among students. These programs reward students for arriving at school on time and avoiding disciplinary referrals. For instance, students who meet these criteria can attend football games for free, which is a significant saving given the usual ticket price of $6.

Additionally, a recent spring incentive competition was held, where students competed based on their punctuality and behavior. The seniors emerged victorious, but the event also recognized the freshmen who placed second. To celebrate, a special outdoor event was organized on the football field, featuring activities such as face painting, drone demonstrations, and movie screenings.

The meeting also acknowledged the achievements of six students from the Latin Club who successfully passed the national Latin exam, showcasing their understanding of the language. This accomplishment was celebrated with medals, emphasizing the school's commitment to academic excellence.

Another significant topic was the introduction of the SmartPass system, which has been in place since the middle of the previous school year. This digital pass helps manage student movement during class time, allowing for better control over how many students can leave the classroom at once. The system has reportedly reduced time out of class, enabling teachers to maintain their teaching flow more effectively.

Looking ahead, the board discussed upcoming events, including the prom scheduled for Saturday, themed "Euphoria," and the National Honor Society spring induction set for the following Monday. Additionally, a new exam for biomed students in the Career and Technical Education program will certify them for lab work, marking an exciting development for the school.
