Port Arthur City Council approves $469K for landfill and wastewater services

During the Groves Council Meeting on November 18, 2024, city officials approved a series of significant financial expenditures totaling $469,197.89, aimed at enhancing local services and infrastructure.

Key allocations included $5,460 for disposal services from the City of Port Arthur and $6,550 for micro saw supplies essential for the wastewater system. The council also approved $6,432.86 for fuel expenses incurred in October, ensuring that city vehicles remain operational.

A notable reimbursement of $25,062 was allocated for HRT expenses, alongside a $30,000 payment for third and fourth quarter contracts. Additionally, Moody Brothers received $36,500 for an overhaul of a two-room facility and $10,025 for borane and sulfur dioxide supplies, both critical for maintaining city operations.

The council addressed ongoing waste management needs with two invoices to Republic Services, totaling $19,007.43 for commercial container services and $12,958.29 for sludge disposal. Furthermore, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) was allocated $5,940.90 for a discharge permit for 2025, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

The meeting also highlighted a significant insurance expenditure of $279,663.58 for the city's incremental risk pool, underscoring the importance of safeguarding municipal assets.

Council members engaged in discussions regarding the reimbursement for advertising expenses related to the Catan Festival, confirming that the approved amount adhered to previously set limits.
