Flagler and Volusia School Boards finalize interlocal agreement on attendance zones

The Flagler County School Board held an agenda workshop on April 8, 2025, focusing on an interlocal agreement with Volusia County regarding educational services. The agreement aims to establish attendance boundaries for students from both counties, facilitating their enrollment in nearby schools.

During the meeting, officials presented the proposed attendance zones. Flagler students will attend Volusia schools, including Pathways Elementary, Hinson Bridal, and Mainland High School, while Volusia students will enroll in Flagler schools such as Buddy Taylor, Flagler Palm Coast, and Old Kings. This arrangement is set to begin in the 2025-2026 school year and will automatically renew for nine additional years unless amended or terminated.

Key highlights of the agreement include provisions for revoking school choice under specific conditions, such as excessive unexcused absences or serious disciplinary issues. The agreement also outlines how both districts will share information and coordinate student transportation, although parents will generally be responsible for transportation unless special arrangements are needed for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
