Penfield Central School District wins Utica National Safety Excellent Award at Titanium level

The Penfield Central School District Board of Education convened on April 8, 2025, to discuss several key achievements and updates within the district. The meeting highlighted the district's recent recognition and ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing student safety and community engagement.

One of the primary topics was the announcement that the Penfield Central School District has received the prestigious Utica National School Safety Excellent Award at the Titanium level for the 2025 school year. This award is the highest honor a district can achieve, acknowledging its exceptional safety efforts that foster a secure and healthy learning environment. Superintendent Dr. Disgriffle commended Mr. George English, the Director of Facilities, for his extensive work in compiling the necessary data for this recognition, which encompasses various safety factors including board policies, fire safety, and bullying prevention.

The meeting also celebrated the accomplishments of the Penfield High School robotics team, which won the Impact Award at the Cleveland Regional competition. This accolade qualifies the team for the world championships in Houston, marking a significant milestone in their 20-year history, during which they have won this award 12 times.

In addition to academic and safety achievements, the board recognized local sports accomplishments. The Penfield High School boys basketball team was honored for winning its first sectional title in 73 years, while wrestler Zane received accolades for his state championship victory in his weight class.

The board reminded attendees of the upcoming Penfield Education Foundation 5K event, which serves as a primary fundraiser for student scholarships and teacher grants, encouraging community participation.
