East Tampa CRA director highlights unique community accomplishments and funding efforts

The East Tampa Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) took center stage during the recent government meeting, with board members emphasizing the significant achievements made in the area. The discussion highlighted the need to recognize the extensive work accomplished in East Tampa, which often goes unnoticed compared to other CRAs.

Board Chair and former East Tampa CRA manager underscored the importance of public awareness regarding the initiatives that have been successfully implemented. "It's not fair that the enormous amount of work that has gone into East Tampa is not highlighted," the chair stated, pointing out that the CRA has invested $1.5 million in roofing and $1.3 million in tree cutting—efforts not typically seen in other redevelopment areas.

The chair also addressed the challenges faced, including pushback from the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) regarding property purchases. However, they reaffirmed the board's independence in decision-making, stressing that the CRA operates separately when it comes to voting on initiatives.

This meeting served as a crucial reminder of the unique progress in East Tampa, with leaders calling for greater community recognition of these accomplishments.
