Oxnard Public Library celebrates National Library Week with renewed community engagement efforts

Oxnard's City Council has officially proclaimed April 6 through April 12, 2025, as National Library Week, celebrating the vital role libraries play in the community. During the recent council meeting, library representatives highlighted the extensive services and programs offered by the Oxnard Public Library, which has seen over 67,000 visits across its three locations in the past year.

Kathleen, a library spokesperson, emphasized that libraries serve as more than just repositories of books; they are community hubs that foster creativity, provide educational resources, and offer social outlets for residents. The library has hosted 947 programs attended by over 14,000 people and has checked out more than 80,000 items, including unique offerings like convection ovens and telescopes.

The council's proclamation recognizes libraries as essential spaces that promote lifelong learning and civic engagement. The library's efforts to partner with local schools and organizations aim to enhance community resources and support economic growth.

As part of the celebration, the library will host a local author showcase on April 12, inviting the community to engage with local talent and further appreciate the library's role in promoting literacy and creativity.
