On April 10, 2025, a significant milestone was reached for Kimball Middle School in Elgin, Illinois, as officials broke ground on a major expansion project. This initiative, part of the SD U-46 facilities plan, aims to enhance educational opportunities by adding approximately 53,000 square feet of new space and renovating existing facilities.

The expansion will include a new cafetorium, updated gym facilities, modern classrooms, and science labs, alongside 30,000 square feet of renovations to current classrooms and administrative areas. This development is particularly important as the district transitions sixth graders from elementary schools to middle schools, implementing a new teaching model known as "teaming." This approach will group students into smaller teams of 100 to 150, allowing for more personalized education and stronger relationships between teachers and students.

Senator Castro, a proud alum of Kimball, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the school's role as a cornerstone of the community.
