Construction delays push Riverside bridge project completion to late summer

The McKinley Street Grade Separation Project in Corona is facing delays, with completion now pushed to late summer 2025. Project manager Josh addressed concerns during a recent update meeting, citing challenges such as steel supply issues stemming from COVID-19 and unexpected complications, including accidents affecting construction timelines.

Despite these setbacks, Josh reassured attendees that the project remains fully funded, with costs estimated between $130 million and $145 million. He emphasized that nearly 95% of the funding comes from non-local sources, specifically allocated for grade separation projects, ensuring financial stability for the initiative.

Residents also inquired about road conditions leading to the bridge. Josh confirmed that while the project will not repave adjacent streets like Griffin Way, they are included in the city's new 10-year pavement management plan for future improvements.

As the project progresses, the team plans to implement a final surface layer of rubberized asphalt to enhance road smoothness and reduce noise. This final touch will ensure that the bridge and surrounding roads look brand new upon completion, addressing public concerns about current rough conditions.
