St. Mary Parish Schools hosts job fairs to boost local employment opportunities

The St. Mary Parish School Board held its regular meeting on April 10, 2025, highlighting significant developments in both financial performance and educational initiatives that directly impact the community.

In her financial report, Chief Financial Officer Mrs. Bozain announced that sales tax collections for the fiscal year to date are 14% favorable, totaling $1.823 million in March. Although this figure fell short of the budget by $235,000 for the month, the overall year-to-date performance remains positive, indicating a healthy financial outlook for the parish.

Dr. Fagan Bush, the superintendent, shared exciting news about the district's accomplishments, including the debut of a district-wide robotics team that placed 21st out of 55 teams in their first competition. This achievement reflects the growing emphasis on STEM education in local schools. Dr. Fagan Bush also expressed gratitude for the hard work of faculty and staff, who have been instrumental in supporting various student events and initiatives.

Looking ahead, the school district is set to host two job fairs aimed at connecting local talent with employment opportunities. The first fair, scheduled for April 26, will focus on teaching and support staff positions, while the second, on May 5, will cater to graduating seniors and community members seeking jobs across various fields. Both events will take place at Centerville High School, emphasizing the district's commitment to fostering local employment.

Additionally, the board recognized National School Librarian Day, honoring the vital role librarians play in maintaining accessible resources for students.
