The Higley Unified School District (HUSD) Governing Board meeting on March 4, 2025, highlighted the remarkable contributions of staff and students from Cooley Middle School and Williams Field High School, celebrating their dedication and positive impact on the community.

At Cooley Middle School, Principal Chad Cantrell introduced several individuals who exemplify the school’s spirit of pride. Volunteer Sam Sembrano was recognized for his unwavering support in English classes, where he has become a beloved figure among students and teachers alike. His commitment to fostering relationships and providing guidance has made a significant difference in the lives of many students.

Classified employee Mike Schlumber, affectionately known as "Mister Mike," transitioned from a campus safety monitor to a paraprofessional, where he has thrived in building strong connections with students. His proactive approach to tracking student progress and providing tailored support has earned him admiration from both students and staff.

Seventh-grade math teacher Chase Connolly was also honored for his dedication to professional growth and student success. His willingness to embrace new challenges and foster a positive learning environment has led to impressive academic improvements among his students.

Eighth grader Araceli Basillos was celebrated as a student point of pride for her leadership qualities and infectious positivity. Her ability to uplift those around her and take initiative in school activities has made her a standout member of the Cooley community.

The meeting continued with Williams Field High School, where Principal Dolan emphasized the school’s core values of mental toughness, integrity, dedication, and selflessness. Volunteer Allison McCallcock was recognized for her invaluable support of the school’s programs, while classified employee Gloria Orler was commended for her long-standing dedication to student success in the classroom.

Randall Clifford, a baseball coach, was acknowledged for his selflessness and mentorship of younger staff, demonstrating the spirit of teamwork and support that Williams Field embodies. Student Nolan Zavala was also honored for his kindness and commitment to his peers, exemplifying the school’s values through his active participation in sports and community events.
