Courtney Sloan, a resident of the Mountain Road District, shared her experience of purchasing her home for $250,000 in 2020, only to see its assessed value jump to $363,600 in the proposed 2025 assessment. She noted that Louisa County's property tax rate of $0.72 per $100 is among the highest in Virginia, especially when compared to neighboring Goochland County, which has a rate of $0.53. Sloan emphasized the need for alternative revenue sources to alleviate the tax burden on residents.

Steve Randolph, another homeowner from the Cuckoo area, echoed these sentiments. He reported a staggering increase in his property assessment from $390,000 to $700,000, raising questions about the accuracy of the county's valuation methods. Randolph compared his assessment with figures from various real estate platforms, which suggested a lower market value. He urged the Board to consider adjusting the tax rate to ensure fairness and maintain revenue without overburdening homeowners.
