Cerritos Girls Intermediate All Stars win SMAF championship against Pasadena and Oxnard

During the recent City Council meeting in Cerritos, California, the council celebrated the remarkable achievements of local youth basketball teams, highlighting their dedication and success in competitive play. The meeting, held on April 10, 2025, served as a platform to honor the Cerritos Girls Intermediate All Stars and the Whitney High School Girls Basketball Team for their championship victories.

The Cerritos Girls Intermediate All Stars were recognized for their triumph in the Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation (SMAF) open division championship. On March 22, 2025, the team showcased their skills by winning all three games in Carson, defeating teams from Pasadena, Oxnard, and Glendora. Coach June Cruz praised the players for their perseverance and teamwork, emphasizing that their victory reflects the strength of the Cerritos youth sports program. In a subsequent presentation, the Whitney High School Girls Basketball Team was celebrated for winning the CIF State Division 4 Championship, marking the first state title in the school's history. The team, which defeated Half Moon Bay 48-40 in the championship game, was commended for their determination and commitment.
