Captain O'Mara recognized as Canyon Lake Citizen of the Month for kitchen remodel project

Canyon Lake residents will soon enjoy a newly remodeled kitchen at the local fire station, thanks to the dedication of Fire Captain O'Mara and his team. During the City Council meeting on April 9, 2025, O'Mara was honored as Citizen of the Month for his leadership in overseeing the extensive renovation project, which included upgrades to drywall, flooring, cabinets, and electrical systems. The project is nearing completion, with only a few finishing touches left, and is expected to be finalized by the end of the week.

O'Mara expressed gratitude for the support he received from fellow firefighters and community members throughout the renovation process. He highlighted the teamwork involved, noting contributions from various individuals, including his family, who helped with tasks ranging from hanging drywall to picking up supplies. The remodel aims to create a functional and welcoming space for both firefighters and the community.

In addition to the kitchen renovation, the Canyon Lake Property Owners Association (POA) shared updates from their recent board meeting. President Bill Begley recognized community member Maxine Whelan for her contributions, particularly her role in bringing Meals on Wheels to the area. The POA also reported a significant increase in participation in their recent community survey, with a 23% response rate, a notable improvement from previous years.

John Grande, president of the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce, reported on a successful candidates forum hosted by the Chamber, which attracted a larger audience than expected. He thanked the POA for their efforts in broadcasting the event, which allowed even more residents to engage with the local political process.

The meeting underscored the importance of community involvement and collaboration in Canyon Lake, with various stakeholders working together to enhance the quality of life for residents. As the kitchen project wraps up and community initiatives gain momentum, Canyon Lake continues to foster a spirit of unity and progress.
