Orem City Council members celebrated significant achievements in public safety during their meeting on February 11, 2025, highlighting the exceptional work of the Orem Police Department and Fire Department.
The council recognized the Orem Police Department's School Resource Officer (SRO) program, which was honored by the National Association of School Resource Officers as one of only six model agencies in the United States and the first from Utah. Police Chief stated that the program has become a vital resource for the Alpine School District, which serves over 85,000 students. The SROs have been instrumental in developing safety plans for local schools and have successfully assisted in securing grant funding for safety improvements. Chief emphasized the importance of fostering communication with school administrations to ensure the needs of students and faculty are met.

He highlighted the department's commitment to service and sacrifice, showcasing a new department model and the introduction of the Orem Fire flag. The chief reported that the department responded to over 6,000 calls last year, demonstrating their dedication to community safety. He also noted the successful implementation of a youth fire cadet program in partnership with local high schools, aimed at inspiring future generations to consider careers in firefighting.
