Jackson Firefighters rescue unconscious resident during apartment blaze on Burkett Street

The City of Jackson, TN, held its City Council meeting on April 1, 2025, where several important topics were discussed, including a commendation for the local fire department's heroic actions during a recent emergency.

The meeting began with a presentation highlighting a significant incident that occurred on January 19, 2025. Jackson Central Dispatch received a report of a commercial structure fire at 106 Burkett Street. Upon arrival, the Jackson Fire Department found an apartment complex engulfed in flames, with three apartments actively burning and the fire spreading rapidly.

Firefighters from multiple units were dispatched to the scene, including Engine 12, Engine 13, Truck 1, and Rescue 2. Battalion Chief Randy Hayes coordinated the response, which involved both fire suppression and search and rescue operations. Notably, Rescue 2 located an unconscious male inside one of the burning apartments. Captain Zachariah Dempshire and Firefighter Cameron Jackson successfully extracted the victim, who was then provided immediate medical assistance by Medic 31.

The swift and coordinated efforts of the firefighters were credited with saving the victim's life. In recognition of their bravery and professionalism, the City Council presented letters of commendation to the involved firefighters, acknowledging their commitment to service and life-saving efforts.
