Del Norte County financial report shows positive cash flow and strong revenue growth

The Del Norte Solid Waste Management Authority convened on April 14, 2025, to discuss financial reports and contract updates. The meeting began with a review of the agency's balance sheet, revealing a healthy cash position of $2.8 million, alongside $198,000 allocated for last month's rent. The financial outlook was deemed positive, with no accounts overdue by 90 days or more, thanks to diligent efforts from staff.

The director highlighted significant expenses, primarily to Hambro WSG for services at the Del Norte County transfer station and to the county for interfund costs related to auditing and IT services. The monthly cash and charge reports indicated revenue of over $155,000 for January, surpassing budget expectations and previous months' figures.

Further discussions focused on the agency's two main revenue sources: service fees from the transfer station and franchise fees, both of which are currently exceeding budget projections by approximately $116,755.

The meeting also addressed the annual financial report from Recology, the agency's primary contractor for solid waste management. It was noted that Recology Del Mar transferred just over $1 million to its parent company, a decrease of $500,000 from the previous year. While this decline was acknowledged, it was emphasized that the relationship with Recology continues to provide public benefits, warranting ongoing oversight to ensure the contract remains advantageous for the community.
