Subscribe for Free Hurst emphasized that Orem has become a leading agency in wildland firefighting, with over 365 deployments anticipated this year alone. He noted the team's transformation from a primarily structural fire department to a robust wildland response unit, which has proven essential during significant fire events, including the recent range fire.
Captain Hickman detailed the program's origins, explaining how it was developed to better serve Orem's citizens while also allowing firefighters to gain valuable experience through deployments. The team has successfully participated in 19 deployments outside of Orem, enhancing their skills and ensuring community safety.
A key highlight of the presentation was the financial sustainability of the program. The Wildfire Team has generated over half a million dollars in revenue, which not only covers operational costs but also allows for the purchase of new firefighting equipment without burdening taxpayers. This self-sufficient model positions Orem to acquire a new fire engine, further bolstering local firefighting capabilities.
The meeting concluded with expressions of gratitude from the team for the support received from city administration and the council, reinforcing the pride and commitment of Orem's firefighters to protect their community and assist in broader state efforts. As wildfires continue to pose a threat, Orem's proactive approach and dedicated team stand ready to respond.
