Christina Corpus reflects on law enforcement journey and community dedication

In a recent meeting of the Independent Civilian Advisory Commission on the Sheriff’s Office in San Mateo County, newly appointed Sheriff Christina Corpus shared her personal journey and vision for law enforcement. Corpus highlighted the challenges she faced as a woman in a predominantly male field, recalling her initial apprehension when entering a competitive hiring process for the sheriff's office. Despite these obstacles, she persevered and became one of only two individuals hired from a large pool of candidates in 2002. Her experiences in corrections revealed systemic issues within the justice system, particularly the cycles of poverty and abuse that many incarcerated individuals face.
