School District faces staff shortages with 7 resignations and 3 retirements

Chicopee Public Schools is facing significant staffing changes as the School Committee reported seven resignations and three retirements during their recent meeting on March 19, 2025. Among the retirees, a notable highlight is the collective contribution of over 80 years of service to the district, underscoring the experience and dedication of the departing staff.

In response to these changes, the district is actively seeking to fill positions, with 40 job postings currently available on PowerSchool. This includes 20 openings for unit A teachers and various roles in special education, including nine special education positions and ten paraprofessional roles. Additionally, there are two nursing vacancies, one for a substitute nurse and another for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), as well as a food service position.

The district continues to prioritize building its substitute pool, with ongoing postings for bus monitors, crossing guards, and noon attendants. These efforts are crucial to maintaining support for students and ensuring that educational services remain uninterrupted.
