The Blount County Schools Board meeting on April 14, 2025, focused on the selection of finalists for the position of director of schools. Five candidates were presented, each with extensive backgrounds in education and administration.
The first candidate, Dr. Rainey Bridal, is an adjunct professor at Edgewood College University and has served as the superintendent of the Baraboo District in Wisconsin until February 2025. His experience includes roles as a director of elementary education and various principal positions, totaling 7 years as a teacher, 2 years as an assistant principal, and 4 years as a superintendent.

Subscribe for Free Dr. Dylan Connell, the second finalist, is currently the chief academic officer for the Durango School District in Colorado. He has held multiple leadership roles, including executive director of curriculum and instruction. Connell brings 12 years of teaching experience and has served as a principal and assistant principal.
The third candidate, Mr. Shane Johnston, is a supervisor at Sweetwater City Schools. His previous roles include director of schools and superintendent for Jefferson County School District in Tennessee. Johnston has 9 years of teaching experience and 4 years as a superintendent.
Dr. David Myers, the fourth finalist, is the instructional technology coordinator for Maryville City Schools. He has a long career in education, including 28 years as a teacher and 13 years as a principal.
Finally, Dr. Alisa Tief Taylor, the interim director of schools, has been with the district since 1994. She has a wealth of experience, including 30 years in central office roles and 11 years as a teacher.
The board will review the candidates' applications and references, which were provided in hard copy and via a digital link. The selection process is a critical step in determining the future leadership of Blount County Schools.
