Gardner Edgerton High School honors character with new Senior Ring of Honor

The Gardner Edgerton USD 231 Board of Education meeting held on April 15, 2025, commenced with a pledge of allegiance led by students from Gardner Edgerton High School. Following this, the board approved the meeting agenda without opposition.

A significant highlight of the meeting was a presentation by students from the high school, who shared details about the inaugural Senior Ring of Honor. This initiative, developed by the principal's advisory council and the school's climate and culture subgroup, aims to celebrate students for their character rather than popularity. A total of 24 seniors were nominated throughout the year based on qualities such as integrity, compassion, and trustworthiness. The students presented three representatives—Asher Boyer, Jen Niewofour, and Libby Fry—who shared their future plans, including attending the University of Kansas for law, the University of New Mexico for biochemistry, and a bridal college in Korea, respectively. The students expressed gratitude for the recognition and the banners they received, which will be displayed during the upcoming senior honors night.

The meeting also included a celebration of the "Vote Yes" campaign, which aimed to garner support for a bond initiative. Superintendent Hough acknowledged the efforts of committee members Mike Casey, Kaylee Lehman, and Laura Carpenter for their hard work in fundraising, creating signs, and promoting the campaign on social media. The board expressed appreciation for their dedication and the challenges they faced during the campaign.
