Littleton Council initiates Geneva Village redevelopment for affordable housing

The Littleton City Council is taking significant steps toward the redevelopment of the Geneva Village Apartments, a site that has been part of the community since its purchase in 1975. During a recent Planning Commission meeting, council members discussed the future of this property, which is not historically designated but is eligible for such status. The Geneva Village Apartments, originally built in 1964 to house retired married members and their families, have been managed by various housing authorities until early 2019.

The council's journey began in February 2022, when they started exploring options for the site. They are balancing the needs of current residents, the historical significance of the architecture, and the potential for future affordable housing development. The council has directed staff to pursue a redevelopment plan that aligns with the city's broader goals.

A technical advisory panel (TAP) has been established to provide expert recommendations on the redevelopment process. This panel will engage with stakeholders in a series of discussions scheduled for May 21, culminating in a community presentation on May 22. The TAP's recommendations will inform the next steps for the property, with a formal report expected by July.

In addition to the Geneva Village Apartments, the council is considering the surrounding parcels, including the Geneva Lodge and city-owned properties, as part of a comprehensive redevelopment strategy. This approach aims to enhance community resources while ensuring prudent stewardship of the land.
