Stevens Point Area Public School District has taken a significant step towards enhancing employee healthcare options following the approval of a new health insurance plan during the April 14, 2025, Regular School Board Meeting. The board voted to contract with Aspirus Health to offer both the Signature and Freedom Network plans, which will provide employees with greater flexibility in choosing their healthcare providers.
The decision comes in response to rising claim costs and high-risk claims, with the renewal proposal set at a 9.5% increase, amounting to approximately $1.8 million. This renewal includes a choice for employees to continue using the Marshfield Clinic, which is not covered under the Signature Network but is included in the more expensive Freedom Network. Employees opting for the Freedom Network will face a 20% co-pay, with monthly costs of $3.05 for single coverage and $6.89 for family coverage.

In addition to the health insurance discussions, the board also reviewed and approved 508 teacher contracts and four nurse contracts, maintaining the same contract template used in previous years. This move ensures stability for staff as the district continues to navigate the complexities of healthcare and employee benefits.
The approval of these plans marks a proactive approach by the Stevens Point Area Public School District to address employee needs while managing budgetary constraints. As the district moves forward, the focus will remain on balancing quality healthcare options with financial sustainability.
