In a recent meeting of the Oshkosh Advisory Parks Board, discussions centered around the upcoming reconstruction of the 40 Fourth Parallel Park tennis courts, with a significant focus on the inclusion of pickleball courts. The board highlighted the growing popularity of pickleball, a sport known for its engaging gameplay and community appeal, which has led to increased demand for dedicated facilities.
As part of the 2025 capital improvement plan, the city council had previously allocated funds for the tennis court reconstruction. However, the board acknowledged concerns raised by nearby residents regarding the noise generated by pickleball, which is notably louder than traditional tennis. In response, the board took proactive steps to gauge community sentiment by distributing surveys to 60 households surrounding the park.

One respondent expressed a willingness to support whatever option would best serve the community. This feedback, particularly from residents living directly across from the courts, played a crucial role in shaping the board's recommendations.
The proposed plan involves replacing one of the two existing tennis courts with two new pickleball courts, a move that reflects both the demand for pickleball facilities and the community's input. As the board prepares to finalize the project, they remain committed to balancing recreational needs with the concerns of local residents, ensuring that the park continues to serve as a vibrant hub for sports and community engagement.
