Commissioners discuss new youth sports facilities in Douglas County

Douglas County is set to transform its sports landscape with the proposed Zebulon mega sports complex, a project that promises to enhance recreational opportunities for local youth and families. During a recent live town hall meeting, community leaders and commissioners discussed the project's potential to serve not only baseball players but also basketball and volleyball athletes, significantly reducing travel times for families across the region.

Commissioner Teal, along with colleagues Layton and Van Winkle, emphasized the importance of this initiative, which aligns with the community's vision for youth sports development. The complex, located in Sterling Ranch, is expected to provide a centralized location for various sports activities, making it easier for families to engage in recreational outings without the hassle of long drives.

The meeting highlighted the community's enthusiasm for the project, with local resident Mark expressing gratitude for the commissioners' vision and leadership. He noted that the complex would cater to a growing population of young athletes, fostering a sense of community and convenience.

Commissioner Kevin pointed out the economic benefits of the project, as the site currently generates no tax revenue. By transforming the former dynamite facility into a vibrant sports hub, Douglas County aims to stimulate local growth and connect its rapidly expanding communities. The complex is strategically located about 15 minutes from major areas like Highlands Ranch and Castle Rock, making it accessible to a wide audience.

In addition to the Zebulon complex, other municipalities shared their own plans for regional parks and sports facilities. Lone Tree is developing High Note Regional Park, which will feature multipurpose fields and community spaces, while Parker is set to break ground on a 91-acre park that includes baseball and softball fields, tennis courts, and a bike pump track.

The town hall underscored a collaborative spirit among local governments and community organizations, with a focus on creating inclusive spaces for all residents.
