Trenton announces $1.7M grant for tree planting in local parks

Trenton City Council has announced a significant environmental initiative aimed at enhancing the city's green spaces. During the combined meeting on April 15, 2025, officials revealed a $1.7 million regional greenhouse grant that will fund the planting of 1,000 trees across various locations, including Mill Hill Park and Cadwater Park. This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve urban greenery and combat the effects of tree loss in the area.

In addition to the major grant, the council discussed a $319,000 water quality grant that has already commenced tree planting in the downtown and Old Town areas. This effort aims to revitalize these neighborhoods and improve overall environmental quality. Furthermore, an additional $800,000 grant will focus on planting trees in South Trenton, where many ash trees have died, providing a much-needed restoration to the local ecosystem.
