Sedona evaluates community-based plan for 41-acre former cultural park site

The idea of a community center, distinct from a recreation center, also gained traction, with citizens advocating for facilities that could serve various community needs.

However, the conversation was not without its challenges. Concerns about the financial implications of new developments were voiced, particularly regarding the potential for increased taxes. While there was notable support for a recreation center, with 54% of respondents in favor, some council members cautioned that this figure did not constitute a mandate, especially given the 57% of respondents who expressed low support for future city expenditures that could lead to tax increases.

As the meeting progressed, the discussion turned to the physical characteristics of the land itself. With only about 27 of the 41 acres deemed developable due to steep terrain and other natural features, planners faced the task of maximizing the potential of the site while respecting its environmental constraints.
