Santa Ana hosts Arbor Day tree planting, job fairs, and community events in April

This Saturday, April 19, Santa Ana will celebrate Arbor Day with a community tree planting event across seven parks from 10 AM to 11 AM. Residents are encouraged to join in at Santiago Park, Centennial Park, Carruthers Park, Cabrillo Park, Thornton Park, El Salvador Park, and Delhi Park to help enhance the city’s green spaces.

In addition to Arbor Day festivities, the Santa Ana Work Center is partnering with Santa Ana College to host a job fair on Thursday, April 25, from 11 AM to 2 PM. This free event aims to connect community members with employment opportunities. A second hiring fair will take place on April 24 at Santa Ana City Hall from 1 PM to 5:30 PM, allowing applicants to apply in person and potentially secure jobs on the spot.

The city is also gearing up for its annual free compost giveaway on April 26 at Centennial Park from 7 AM to 12 PM, promoting sustainable practices among residents. Meanwhile, the Santa Ana Zoo will host its annual fundraiser, Brew at the Zoo, on May 10 from 5 PM to 8 PM, coinciding with Mexican Mother’s Day, offering a fun evening for families.

Council members highlighted the importance of community engagement, urging residents to complete a survey to share their priorities with the city. Council Member Phan also noted the significance of April 30, marking the 50th anniversary of the fall of Saigon, and encouraged participation in related commemorative events.

In a somber moment, Councilman Becerra reflected on a tragic incident that claimed the lives of five local youths in early April, emphasizing the community's compassion and support for the affected families. The council continues to foster a spirit of unity and resilience in the face of adversity.
