Wallingford Public Schools celebrated the achievements of its outstanding students during the Board of Education meeting on November 25, 2024. The highlight of the evening was the recognition of three exceptional students nominated for the prestigious U.S. Presidential Scholar program.
Marcus, a senior at Lyman Hall High School, was commended for his academic excellence and leadership qualities. As captain of the Powder Puff cheerleaders, he has fostered teamwork and school spirit, significantly enhancing the school culture. His commitment extends beyond academics, as he actively participates in morning announcements and advanced business management classes, showcasing his communication skills and initiative. Notably, Marcus balances his school responsibilities with caring for his two younger siblings, demonstrating remarkable maturity and resilience.

Subscribe for Free Danica Tangretti, a senior at Sheehan High School, was also honored as a U.S. Presidential Scholar nominee. Described as dynamic and intelligent, Danica excels academically, ranking third in her class while taking a challenging course load of AP classes. Her leadership is evident through her role as secretary of the class of 2025 and her involvement in various National Honor Society committees. Danica's dedication to community service and her positive interactions with peers further underscore her deservingness of this recognition.
Galena Esposito, another nominee for the U.S. Presidential Scholar program, represents Wallingford in the career and technical education category. Galena has consistently achieved honor roll status and has taken on leadership roles as president of the DECA chapter, where she guides peers through competitions. Her participation in community service and mentoring younger players in lacrosse highlights her commitment to giving back to the community.
Additionally, the meeting recognized Charlie Elliot from Lyman Hall High School with the National School Development Council Award for academic growth and leadership. With a GPA of 4.04, Charlie has excelled in a rigorous academic program while volunteering over 215 hours to support her peers. Her leadership extends to captaining the field hockey team and serving as a chemistry teacher assistant, demonstrating her dedication to both academics and community service.
The recognition of these students not only celebrates their individual achievements but also reflects the strong educational values and supportive community within Wallingford Public Schools.
