Euclid Council approves $3M body camera system for all sworn officers

The Euclid City Council made a significant move towards enhancing public safety during their meeting on February 18, 2025, by approving a $3 million investment in body cameras and dash cams for the police department. This decision aims to equip every sworn officer with a body camera, ensuring accountability and transparency in law enforcement.

Captain Dave Olszewski and Lieutenant Kosas presented a detailed proposal, highlighting the importance of modern technology in policing. Council members praised their thorough preparation and commitment to finding a cost-effective solution. "It's a big investment, but it’s a good use of our funds," remarked one council member, emphasizing the community's expectation for well-equipped safety forces.

The funding will be structured over five years, alleviating the immediate financial burden on the city. Councilman Toulton clarified that the investment includes 107 body cameras for all officers, including detectives and special units, while 25 dash cams will be installed in police vehicles. The council unanimously supported the motion, signaling strong backing for the initiative.

In addition to the camera program, the council also discussed a standard ordinance for a grass cutting and yard cleanup program, indicating ongoing efforts to maintain community standards.
