Iron County Commission approves survey area for solar project with Bright Knight

The meeting began with a discussion regarding the approval of a resolution to designate survey areas for the proposed Antelope Springs Community Reinvestment Project Area. The commission authorized continued discussions with Bright Knight, a renewable energy developer, about a solar and battery project. The agency emphasized that this step does not lock them into any agreements but allows for conceptual discussions about project terms and potential financial incentives. The commission confirmed that all financial aspects remain negotiable.

Concerns were raised about the timeline for project completion, referencing past projects that had not materialized. The agency attorney assured that all agreements include clauses that release the agency from obligations if projects do not meet specified commercial operation deadlines.

Following this, the commission unanimously approved the resolution designating the survey areas. They then transitioned to discussions regarding the Iron Springs solar community development project area, where they considered an amended interlocal agreement that included a 50% participation rate. This resolution also passed with unanimous support.

The meeting proceeded with personnel updates, where several promotions within the Iron County Sheriff's Office and other departments were announced. Caleb Anderson was promoted to lieutenant, and Michael Hilliger to sergeant, both effective April 13, 2025. Additionally, new hires were confirmed for various positions, including a corrections deputy and a seasonal park maintenance technician.

The commission concluded the meeting by approving all personnel changes, ensuring that the county's operational needs are met as they move forward with both personnel and development projects.
