Cherokee County honors Senior Services volunteers and 9 11 Foundation during proclamation ceremony

The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners held a work session on April 15, 2025, where they celebrated the contributions of local volunteers and recognized the newly established 9-1-1 Foundation.

The meeting began with two proclamations aimed at honoring community service. The first proclamation declared April 15 as Volunteer Appreciation Day in Cherokee County, highlighting the invaluable work of volunteers in the Senior Services program. Commissioner Harry Johnson praised the dedication of these individuals, particularly those involved in the Meals on Wheels program, which serves over 200 seniors. Volunteers were recognized for their commitment to uplifting the lives of seniors, reinforcing community bonds, and providing essential support.

Barbara Allen, a Meals on Wheels volunteer, shared a personal story illustrating the profound impact of the program, emphasizing that the interactions between volunteers and seniors often mean more than just delivering meals. The heartfelt acknowledgment of these volunteers underscored the importance of community service in enhancing the quality of life for residents.

The second proclamation honored the Cherokee County 9-1-1 Foundation, which supports the county's emergency dispatch services. This foundation, established just a year ago, is the only nonprofit in Georgia focused solely on 9-1-1 operations. The foundation aims to advocate for and advance the capabilities of the Cherokee County E911 Center, providing essential support for its employees through various initiatives, including mental health resources and training programs.

Representative Charlice Byrd attended the meeting to present a resolution from the State House of Representatives, further recognizing the foundation's efforts. She commended the 9-1-1 team for their critical role in public safety, noting their exemplary performance in handling emergency calls.

The meeting concluded with a call for community support for both the Senior Services volunteers and the 9-1-1 Foundation, emphasizing the vital roles they play in ensuring the safety and well-being of Cherokee County residents.
