Relay for Life Takes Center Stage at Madera County Board Meeting

Relay for Life's upcoming event was the highlight of the Madera County Board of Supervisors meeting on April 15, 2025. Charlotte Brewer, representing the organization, passionately invited the supervisors to participate in the 24-hour fundraiser set to kick off on April 26. This year's theme, "Give Cancer the Boot," embraces a western motif, aiming to rally community support against cancer.

Brewer expressed gratitude for Supervisor Poitras's involvement in the opening ceremonies, emphasizing the event's significance as a major fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. "It’s not just a one-day thing," she noted, highlighting the ongoing efforts required to organize such a vital community initiative. The event is recognized as the largest volunteer-driven fundraiser for cancer awareness and support.

The meeting also touched on the challenges of leadership within the organization, with Brewer reflecting on the need for new leaders to step up in the fight against cancer. "Someday, we hope to not hear those words, you have cancer," she concluded, reinforcing the event's mission.
